On 10 September 2015, the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy (BMWi) and the General Administration for Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) jointly organized a workshop on market surveillance of e-commerce in Berlin. The event took place as part of an AQSIQ delegation trip headed by the Department for Inspection Supervision.

The workshop was chaired by Director General Stefan Schnorr (BMWi) on the German side, who was joined by representatives of the Federal Finance Offices Southeast and West as well as the Tübingen Regional Council. On the Chinese side, the workshop was chaired by Deputy Director General Song Xiushun (AQSIQ). Other representatives of AQSIQ as well as several local Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureaus (CIQ) also attended.

In light of the increasing levels of e-commerce in and between the two countries, both are facing similar challenges concerning market surveillance. The workshop served the purpose of exchanging information on regulatory and practical aspects of market surveillance in e-commerce. It was the first activity on the subject of market surveillance in e-commerce under the umbrella of the Sino-German WG on Product Safety between BMWi and AQSIQ. Both sides agreed to continue the cooperation with the aim to ensure the safety of products traded online.
