In May and June 2014, two consecutive events on the GS scheme (“safety tested”) took place in Beijing. First, on 9 May, Mr. Hans-Georg Niedermeyer, director of the Central Authority of the Länder for Safety (ZLS), which is responsible for the certification of GS-testing agencies, met with representatives of the Certification and Accreditation Administration of the People’s Republic of China (CNCA) as well as certification organizations to introduce the basic features and responsibilities of the GS-scheme.

On 10 June, a workshop on the GS scheme took place in Beijing, which was attended by representatives from CNCA, ZLS, the German Association for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies (VDE) as well as industry and certification and testing bodies from both countries.

After welcome remarks by Mr. Liu Weijun (Deputy Division Head, CNCA) and Dr. Jörg Binding (GIZ), the requirements, accreditation as well as testing and surveillance of the GS-scheme were introduced by Dr. Michael Ottmann and Mr. Fred Dellian (both ZLS). Mr. Cliff Lin (DEKRA) then introduced the practical implementation within his company.

Both events contributed to the transmission of foundational knowledge about conformity assessment requirements within the GS-scheme and also functioned as important venues to discuss further potentials for cooperation between the two countries. As such, important foundations were laid for continued exchange on conformity assessment procedures between China and Germany.
